BMW or Bavarian Motor Works is a German car manufacturer founded in 1917. BMW started out building engines for motorcycles and airplanes in the early 1920's. Soon following the end of the First World War BMW was forced to halt production on all aircraft manufacturing due to the Treaty of Versailles being put into place. The first BMW car was based loosely on the Austin 7, an early British car maker. The famous BMW logo was a combination of the blue and white colors on the flag of Bavaria. The next model 3 series was called the E30 which was sold and produced from 1982 to 1991. The base model price was double that of its compatriot the E21. This did not lose the interest of the loyal BMW customer base and the six cylinder 4 door automobile earned high marks. In 1985 the long awaited 325i and 325is were released with new disk brakes. During this time BMW was not sure if their focus on the performance aspect of their vehicles was going to pay off. They later figured out that it attracted a whole new breed of buyers which they never expected.
The first high performance BMW sports car was the M3 which was made to replicate the 1986 E-30 Series BMW. It came with a 2.3L engine. The car was raced in the World Touring Car Championship and proved to be very competent winning prestigious awards against the likes of Mercedes Benz Alfa Romeo, Ford, and Volvo. BMW's m3 not only exceeded expectations in performance it took the sports car to new heights. Over the years BMW has made minor cosmetic changes and of course a larger motor with more horsepower, new wheels, and upgraded interior packages.
Next to come was the 5 series BMW which released its first model in 1972 and continued on to 1981 which saw several models and continuous success. Since then BMW has continued to re innovate and re define the meaning of excellence in all of their automobiles. They have constantly made upgrades to all their models and have had continued success in doing so.
I've had an outstanding and wonderful experience driving my new 2012 3 series BMW. This car is unbelievably versatile and sporty. I wasn't sure what to expect with all the new features plus the refined size and style. I was pleasantly surprised on the unique upgrades this BMW offered.
